Outcaster

ABOUT THE SHOW

The year is 2198. Captain Tanaka hosts an intergalactic radio show aboard the Outcaster – a battle carrier turned maintenance ship. With mood-setting music and the banter of her misfit crew, the podcast carries listeners through an unpredictable cosmos.

Bomber pilot, weaponry enthusiast, questionably reformed pirate.

Fiercely loyal to her grandson and co-pilot Tiny Joe, Shony’s rogue past gives her a sharp edge and insights into problems others wouldn’t dare touch.

Badge

Tiny Joe

Bomber pilot, data analyst, lovable muscle.

Co-piloting the Outcaster’s largest bomber with Shony, his grandmother, Tiny Joe delivers sharp wit and sharper timing alongside his strength.

Mechanical engineer, scrapyard native, (un)lucky charm.

Keeping the Outcaster and its fleet running, Lucy’s grit and ingenuity often outpace her streak of bad luck.

Unpredictable and eccentric, Chapman’s outlandish theories and strange habits sometimes spark the crew’s most surprising breakthroughs.

HOW WE USE AI

Outcaster Radio was created, above all, to build a community. The story, characters, universe, and artwork are all crafted by talented artists, screenwriters, and audio/visual designers.

For Season 1, as an experiment, we used AI to assist with scripts, voices, video, and music. This exploration allowed us to maximize the efforts of our small team, push creative boundaries, and scale up our project.

The truth is, as artists ourselves, we’re still figuring out how we feel about AI in all capacities. As the project grows, we’ll share more about our individual processes and personal perspectives.

In addition to welcoming fellow Outcasters into the fold, Season 1 is an informal casting call and fundraiser. For Season 2, we hope to have the budget to feature musicians, voice actors, illustrators, and animators. But before anything else, we want to pay fair wages. So first—let us sell a million Outcaster t-shirts and a few dozen anti-gravity Crazy Chapman mugs (patent pending).
